Common questions

Before you reach out.

You don't need to know — that's what the evaluation is for. The free 15-minute phone call helps Velia understand what you're seeing, and a play-based evaluation identifies exactly what your child needs. Many children present with overlapping areas, and Velia will give you a clear picture after the assessment.
Sessions are typically 45–55 minutes. Frequency depends on your child's needs and goals — most children are seen 1–2 times per week. Velia will give you a specific recommendation as part of the evaluation and planning process.
For most speech and language goals, research supports teletherapy as equally effective to in-person treatment. It works particularly well for school-age children and for families with scheduling or transportation constraints. Velia will discuss which format is the best fit for your child during your call.
School-based therapy is valuable but often limited — group sessions, frequent therapist changes, and eligibility criteria that don't always reflect a child's full needs. Private therapy complements school services and can accelerate progress significantly. Velia is happy to collaborate with your child's school team.
Yes. Velia is a fully bilingual clinician — not just conversationally, but clinically. She can assess, diagnose, and deliver therapy entirely in Spanish, and understands the unique considerations for bilingual children. No interpreter needed, and no nuance lost in translation.
Vela serves children from toddlers through early adolescence. The free phone call is the best way to confirm whether your child's age and needs are a good fit for the practice.
